直接引语的tomorrow在间接引语中的改法

在引语转换中，直接引语中的 tomorrow 通常在间接引语中要改为 the next day。如：

“I will come to see you tomorrow,” he said.

He said he would come to see me the _______ day.

答案是填 next。我的疑问是：可以填 following 吗？因为 the following day 也是第二天的意思啊！

如果直接引语中的时间状语是 tomorrow，改为间接引语后，时间状语可以用 the next day 或者 the following day (见《新编高级英语语法》p.586，章振邦主编，上海外语教育出版社2012年12月第1版)

所以，“I will come to see you tomorrow,” he said. / He said he would come to see me the _______ day.这道题的答案可以填 next，也可以填 following 。

(1) next day, tomorrow 用于直接引语中（相对于现在时间起点第2天）

(2) the next day, the following day 用于间接引语中（相对于过去时间起点第2天）
