表示“通过……”用through,by,on中的哪个介词

通过电话，除 on the phone 外，能否用 through the phone, by phone?

通过信件，应该是 by letter 还是 by letters?

1. on the phone (= speaking on the telephone) 在通电话

例如：Who was that on the phone? 打电话的是谁？

2. by phone / over the phone (= using the telephone)通过电话

例如：Much of his work is done by phone. 他的工作大部分是通过电话进行的。
