▲副词 already 一般放在句中。如：

The winter is already here. 冬天已经来临。

He already knew about it. 那时他已知道此事了。

He is already working. 他已经在工作了。

When I came in, he was already laying the table. 我进来时，他已在摆桌子了。

His mind was already on the running track. 他的心已经跑到跑道上去了。

▲但有时也可放在句首或句末，此时通常是出现强调或对比等原因。如：

——放在句首：

Already they were sweating as the sun beat down upon them. 在阳光的强烈照射下他们已经汗流浃背。

Already the new newspaper is gaining converts. 这家新报纸已经逐渐把其它报纸的读者争取过来。

Already low living standards have been worsened by stringent economic reforms. 紧缩财政的经济改革使得原本就低落的生活水准雪上加霜。

He’s only been here two months and already he’s managed to wangle his way into the biggest property company in London. 他到这里才两个月就已混进伦敦最大的地产公司了。

——放在句末：

He has read the book already. 他已读过这本书。

By this time tomorrow I’ll have finished the job already. 到明天这个时候，我将已做完这工作。

We spoke to little purpose. His mind was clearly made up already. 我们说的话不起作用，他显然早已下定决心了。

▲有时用于疑问句的句末，多是用来表示惊讶。如：

Is he back already? 他怎么就回来了?

Can he have left already? 他会已经离开了吗?

Have your children started school already? 你的孩子们已经上学了？
