【一】as well as构成同级比较结构，意为“和……一样好”。这时，第一个as是副词，第二个as是连词，引导一个状语从句，表示同级比较。

He speaks English as well as a native speaker.

他讲的英语是和英语是母语的人一样好。

He can operate the machine as well as I do.他操作这台机器和我一样熟练。

【二】、as well as用作连词，连接两个并列的同等成分，其意义为“不但……而且……”，“既……又……”，这时相当于not only ... but also ...。它所连接的部分既可以是单词、短语，也可以是句子。值得注意的是，在A as well as B的结构里，语意的重点在A，不在B。翻译时要特别注意。

【1】主语+系动词+形容词+as well as +形容词

The girl is lively as well as healthy.

（连接两个表语）这女孩既健康又漂亮。

【2】主语+谓语+宾语+as well as +宾语

He can speak Spanish as well as English.

(连接两个宾语) 他不但会说英语，而且会讲西班牙语。

【3】状语+as well as+ 状语，主语+谓语+其他

In China, as well as in Canada, the weather changes from season to season.

(连接两个状语) 中国的天气和加拿大一样随季节的变化而变化。

【4】主语+as well as +主语+谓语+其它（谓语采用就远原则）

The teacher as well as the students enjoys listening to English songs.（连接两个主语）老师和学生都爱听英语歌曲。

【三】短语介词用法：as well as当作复杂介词，意思是“除了……之外，还有”，后面通常接名词或动名词，相当于besides，apart from，in addition to。

【1】主语+系动词+形容词+名词+as well as +名词

Hiking is good exercise as well as fun. 

徒步旅行除了有趣之外，还是很好的运动。

【2】as well as +动名词， 主语+谓语+其它

As well as eating seven-course meals, they drank three bottles of wine.

他们除了吃了七道菜之外，还喝了三瓶酒。

【四】在使用as well as时还应注意以下几点：

【1】连接两个并列成分作主语时，句子的谓语动词应该与前面那个名词或代词的人称或数保持一致。

Mary as well as I has been to the Great Wall

我和玛丽去过长城。

His children as well as his wife were invited to the party.

不但他太太，连他的孩子们也都被邀请参加了聚会。

【2】.连接动词时应注意以下几种情况：

① 如果as well as连接的是两个简单动词形式，它和第二个动词实际上起着插入语的作用，这时as well as后的动词在人称和数上应与主语保持一致。

They play the piano as well as sing.

他们不但会唱歌，而且会弹琴。

 He works, as well as sleeps, in the room.

他既在这房间里睡觉，又在这儿工作。

② 如果as well as前面的动词是复合时态，或由情态动词can，may，must等加动词构成时，as well as后面可省去助动词或情态动词。

The boy has learned to speak English as well as read some English books.

这个男孩不仅读了一些英语书，而且学会了说英语。

She can / could sing as well as dance.她既会跳舞也会唱歌。

③ 如果as well as前面是带to的动词不定式，其后的动词不定式省去to；当重复同一动词时，可用do代替。

⑥用于否定结构中not位于as well as后时，两者都否定；not用于as well as前时，否定前者，肯定后者。试比较：

I shall not see the film as well as he.他将去看电影，而我不去。

I, as well as he, shall not see the film.他不去看电影，我也不去。

⑦as well as连接的人称代词，既可以是主格，也可以是宾格，但句意不同。

They have invited you as well as me.  

他们邀请了我，也邀请了你。（you和me都作宾语）

They have invited you as well as I.  

他们和我一样都邀请了你。（they和I都作主语）

【五】用法拓展

1. as well，是副词短语，意思是“也”，相当于too / also常位于句尾，与too位置相当，无须用逗号与句子分开。

I am going to London and my sister is going as well（＝going，too）.

我要到伦敦去，我妹妹也要去。 

I not only play the guitar，I sing as well（＝I also sing）.

我不但弹吉他，而且还演唱。

2. may / might as well do sth表示“不妨，还是……的好”。

If no one else wants it, we might as well give it to him.

 如果没人要这个，我们不妨给他吧。

3. may / might well很可能

You may well be right.

你很可能是对的。

It may well be that the train is delayed.

火车很可能晚点。

    as well as 所连接的成分应该相等，即名词对名词、形容词对形容词、动词对动词等。在你的句子中，应该是“____ after the children”对“do the housework”，所以答案只能是A，不能选择B。
