▲如果所表示的头衔在相关范围内是独一无二的,则通常要省略冠词,如以captain为例:

He was gazetted captain. 委派他任上尉。

I think she’s a very good choice for captain. 我认为她是非常合适的队长人选。

She was captain of the Olympic swimming team. 她是长山奥林匹克游泳队队长。

▲但不省略也不能算错。比如:

He was (the) captain of the football team for five years. 他当了五年的足球队长。(牛津词典)

It’s unusual to have a goalkeeper as (the) captain of a football team. 让守门员当足球队的队长是很少见的。(剑桥词典)

▲注意,如果不是指头衔,而是指具有某头衔的人,则不能省略其前的冠词。如:

The captain gave the order to fire. 上尉下令开火。

The captain put the ship about. 船长更改了船的航向。

The captain was not lacking in confidence about his team’s prospects. 队长对他们队的前途不乏信心。

▲至于头衔前带有修饰语(比如名词或形容词),这并不影响以上原则的运用。如:

he has been appointed finance director. 他被任命为财务主管。

He was appointed to the post of general manager. 他获任命为总经理。

She replaced Jane Stott as Managing Director. 她接替简·斯托特做了总裁。

She will be installed as Managing Director in May. 她将于5月被任命为总经理。

Nominations are invited for the post of party chairman. 为党主席职位征集候选人。

She missed out on the top job, but as a consolation prize was made deputy chairman. 她失去了就任最高职位的机会, 但还算是中了安慰奖, 她被任命为副董事长。
