▲若用作形容词，best 的意思是“最好的”。如：

I want to do what is best for the children. 我要做对孩子最有益的事。

也可表示“最适当的，最有效的”等。如：

He’s the best man for the job. 他是最适合做这项工作的人。

The best thing for you would be to forget it. 你最好是把这事儿忘了。

▲若用作副词，best 有两个基本意思：一是表示“最好”，二是表示“最”：

I work best in the morning. 我早晨工作效力最高。

He who laughs last laughs best. 谁笑到最后，谁笑得最好。

I like this (one) best. 我最喜欢这个。

My father knew best what was good for me. 我父亲最清楚什么对我有利。

Light colours suit you best. 你最适于穿浅色衣服。

说明：与动词like, love, enjoy, hate, suit, know等连用表示“最”时，一般多用best，较少用most。如：

What sport do you like best? 你最喜欢什么运动?

This coat suits me best. 这件衣最合我的身。

I enjoyed his first novel best (of all). 我最喜欢他的第一部小说。
