问题：relative to，询问了chatgpt，给出的参考是修饰underpowered，进一步提供了对比对象；我自己想着可不可以理解成relative to为时间/条件状语，相当于when/If it（the new console）is relative to its peers.；我把underpowered看做adj，如何用一个形容词短语修饰另一个形容词，我觉得有点抽象，请问怎么能够理解其中的语法关系，更好地理解语义？

谢邀。首先，Although still underpowered relative to its peers = Although it is still underpowered relative to its peers.

我自己读后的语感是把这种用法的relative to看作复合介词，因为我在读这句话的时候很自然在underpowered后作个小停顿，把relative to its peers 当作一个意群。所以，作复合介词解释比较简单，也符合英语思维。我查了一些词典，很多主流词典仅是把relative to 当作固定的短语，其实很多固定短语是可以起介词作用的。最后我在韦氏大学，American Heritage 和 the free dictionary 找到了介词的释义，如韦氏大学词典释义:

这样，我们把relative to its peers 理解为状语，问题就迎刃而解了。你觉得这样分析还抽象吗？我们读完一个句子，要首先理解句意。很多用法分析是和句意有关的，实际上很多用法都有自己的使用习惯，对一个词和短语的用法的解释是灵活的，所以有时会产生不同的解释。核心是要准确理解句意。
