请问this的指代对象是谁，是前面的tiny particles，不应该用these are吗？

what remains of在朗文词典上能找到这搭配，如果能分析的话，就更好了。因为有点难以理解。

我对of的分析：作后置修饰语，修饰前面的what remains（作为名词性关系分句，相当于the tiny particles that remains of tomato cells），of表示所属关系，“番茄细胞剩下的细小微粒”。

请问该怎么去理解？

remains 是谓语动词，不是名词。我理解of tomato cells 是what的定语。也可以把of 理解为from, 因为英语也经常说what remains from... This is 应该指tiny particles. 也可以说these are what remain of... 但口语表达时，人们更多习惯了用this is.这样就随口说出来。
