代词的指代问题

Somebody is asking about your age when they ask "How old are you?"

请问老师：句中使用复数they指代单数somebody，这个句子正确吗？

可以这样用，因为我们不知道somebody的性别。这是现代英语中常见的用法。如果用he or she 也可以，比较正式和陈旧。
