我见过下面这类句子的省略：
He hurt himself while (he was) playing football.
While (he was) at college, he was a prominent athlete.
He retained the consciousness of it while (he was) asleep.
请问专家老师：下面这类句子中的 he was 可以省略吗？即 while 后面可以直接跟名词吗？

=While (he was) a student, he had to borrow money.
