1. 这里的hire是hire out的意思吧，这里是不是省略了out？

因为我查字典，动词hire单独使用，一般是雇佣进来的意思，如果是出租出去，一般是词组hire out。

2. 另外句尾的he demanded,he指的是Hawkwood吧。
