the same as 用法疑惑

老师们好！

今天无意中看到这样一个句子，感觉不好理解：

That's the same weight as the magnets used in Iraq's gas centrifuge program before the Gulf War.

其实就是上面的That's the same weight as the magnets - 这里的as感觉不好理解？？因为，as比较分句我认为是省略了is，比较对应项是the same weight 必须省略的，

补上is, 意思是 the magnets...is (the same weight - 我知道不能补上，假设补上) - 好像不对， sth is the same weight ???

或许是：

1）比较分句省略的是has, 这样就是 sth has the same weight - 好像正确的？

2）或改成 That's the same weight of the magnets... - 这好像也是正确的？

中学阶段，就应该讲过the same...as...的句型。那时老师可能没有讲比较对应项的概念，还有省略等，就告诉你这样记住这个句式，你可能会用。现在学多了，反而糊涂了。如果糊涂还不如按原来的方法。没必要想这么复杂。

假如理解为省略，也不能是is, 应该是are. 你应该能明白为什么。你知道不能补上，干脆就不要理解为省略。把它当作一个固定句型。

That's the same weight of the magnets... 不对，of 要改为as.
