rather than后面的动词形式

为什么：

Many are deprived of their liberty, rather than met with empathy.

句中用的met with，而不是meet with呢？

rather than 在不跟情态动词 would / will 等连用时，通常表示“（而）不是”的意思，后面往往接与前面词性相同的词语。在网友的句子中，就是这种用法。即：

Many are deprived of their liberty, rather than met with empathy.

= Many are deprived of their liberty, rather than (are ) met with empathy.
