比较级结构分析

曹老师，帮我分析一下这句话的比较级结构呗:

There may be some people who value exercise for itself, but I don't. I value exercise because if I exercise, I tend to stay healthier than I would if I didn't.

这句话最后的than I would看不太明白，为什么这里使用would？

than比较分句是个虚拟条件句（与现在事实相反的假设），主句比较项为形容词healthier，其对应项在比较分句必须省略，所以than I would （stay）if I didn't （exercise）。stay在此为系词，其后的表语为比较对应项，必须省略。
