on副词，to是介词，如果没有这二个，就体现不了方位变化。

【1】on 为副词，意思“事物向前移动”

Please send the letter on to my new address.请把信件转寄到我的新地址。

She stopped for a moment, then walked on.她停了一会儿，然后又向前走。

Keep straight on for the beach.一直向前走到海滩。

【2】to 为介词，意思“朝某个方向移动并最终达到某地”。

The meadows lead down to the river.牧场一直延伸到河边。

Her hair fell to her waist.她的长发一直垂到腰部。

【3】动词(vi)+on(副词)+to(介词) 移动到…上; 登上某种交通工具。

They hurried on to the plane.他们匆忙登上了飞机。

There were glass doors leading on to this balcony.  有玻璃门通到这个阳台。

I pushed through the crowds and on to the escalator.  我挤出人群，踏上了自动扶梯。

In the present climate, owners are hanging on to old ships.  在目前的形势下，船东们都不愿淘汰掉旧船。

备注：在动词(vi)+on(副词)+to(介词)结构种，副词on表示动作“向前移动，介词to表达最终达到某个地点” 网友给出on to the boat就属于这个用法。
