主语用单数时表语用单数还是复数(My favourite fruit is…)

咱们的柯帕斯英语上曾有网友提出过这个问题，如：

My favorite fruit is _____.（填单数还是复数）

老师们给出的答案是：

My favorite fruit is the apple / apples.

请问这类问题有权威出处吗？总感觉没有把握似的。

除了陈老师提供的解答外，我再给补充两个可能：用单数名词，加不定冠词或不用冠词也对。

1. My favorite fruit is an apple.
