第二句中的based on...显然是定语。如果不是定语，根据作者的生活去评估一本小说就没有道理了。

第一句中的过去分词短语按照状语或定语分析都是可以的。

1 coupled with做定语，相当于定语从句which is coupled with，谓语动词应当是makes。

2 based on过去分词做定语，相当于定语从句which is based on。
