https://www.cpsenglish.com/question/55990

He dances better than sings.

He sings better than dances.

He sings better than he dances.

附:剑桥英语语法P.1113

(g) Restrictions on omission of subject

In clauses where the verb is retained, the subject can be omitted only when it is the counterpart to the comparative phrase or is understood as an embedded clause, as in (d) above:

[22] i More people came than [were invited]. [counterpart to comparative phrase]

ii He spent longer on it than [seemed necessary]. [embedded clause]

iii Liz works harder than [worked/did last year].

To remedy [iii] we must either insert a subject (she) or else omit the verb too, giving than

last year.

He dances better than sings.

1.They can write better than speak and should be encouraged to do so.

2. Fund-raising is a long-term boost at best, but most institutions cannot do better than run in place.

3. I promise you they'll do more than cry.

[iv] The difficulties are even greater than appears at first sight.

...than it appears at first sight that the difficulties are great.

显然就不能理解为 it appears that...

The differences are more profound than appear at first sight.

The differences are more profound than (they) appear at first sight.

theydifferences.

1. That Fisher's poetry is full of forms does not imply that there are more things in its heaven and earth than appear at first sight. (Angela Leiton: On Form: Poetry, Aestheticism, and the Legacy of a Word, 2008年版 p.236)

2. In fact , as Miller pointed out in 1895 , there are more similarities between the two maps than appear at first sight. (Michael Prestwich: Thirteenth Century England VIII, 2001 p175)

3. The differences are more profound than appear at first sight. (Lucien Girardier: Mammalian Thermogenesis, 2012年版p 4)

4. The shifts required were much larger than appear at first sight, and all the harder to make.

Liz spoke Chinese better before than (she speaks it) now.

Liz speaks English better than her friends (speak it).

Liz speaks English better than (she speaks) Chinese. (STV省略)

Liz speaks English better than (she) writes it. (S省略)

Liz is more shy than (she is) unfriendly. (Sbe省略)

Liz looks younger than she is (young), and feels younger than she looks. (C省略)

Liz considers him more a friend than (she considers him) a lover. (STVN省略)

Liz speaks English better than you think (that she speaks it).

Liz speaks English better than I (speak) Chinese. (TV 省略)

Bob loves his mother as dearly now as (he loved her) when young.

Bob doesn’t regard money so seriously as his father (regards it).

Bob treats people as skillfully as (he) does research work.

Bob knows science as much as you expect (that he knows it).
