1. instead of“代替；而不是”是短语介词（或成语介词），是名词stead“代替”所构成的in (the) stead of短语演变而来，相当于in place of或rather than。除含有“代替”之意外，还含有否定概念“而不”的意思，其后通常接名词或代词，若后接与谓语对应的动词，通常用动名词，不用不定式，常用作状语表示“择比关系”。位于句首时表示“不是……，而是……”的意思。例如：
