新概念3-22课出现了3处would用法:
Some plays are so successful that they run for years on end, In many ways, this is unfortunate for the poor actors who are required to go on repeating the same lines night after night.
One (would1) expect them to know their parts by heart and never have cause to falter. Yet this is not always the case.
A famous actor in a highly successful play was once cast in the role of an aristocrat who had been imprisoned in the Bastille for twenty years.
In the last act, a gaoler (would2) always come on to the stage with a letter which he (would3) hand to the prisoner.
Even though the noble was expected to read the letter at each performance, he always insisted that it should be written out in full.
有人说上面3处的would是一样的含义用法,我不认同。我个人感觉是:
1)(would1)是牛津释义的 used to give opinions that you are not certain about (提出拿不准的看法),
2)而(would2)和(would3)是同样的用法,是表示过去的习惯,如果是动态动作,可以和used to互换,本文中,(would2)和(would3)可以用used to替换。不知对否?
