over的用法(表示louder than sth 声音大于)

关于over表示“louder than sth 声音大于”的词条下，有两个例句：

I couldn't hear what he said over the noise of the traffic. 交通噪声太大，我听不清他说的话。（牛津词典）

"What?" he yelled over the noise of the engine and the wind. “什么？”他高喊道，声音盖过了引擎声和风声。

over的基本意思是“在……之上”“超过……”，后接声音时，引申为louder than ... 这种用法，一般可以和above互换。

I couldn't hear what he said over the noise of the traffic. 从英语字面意思可以理解为：我无法听到他说得话的声音超过交通的噪音，也就是说交通噪音盖过了他说话的声音。改用通顺的汉语，即字典的翻译：交通噪声太大，我听不清他说的话。
