3 the purpose作主语时表语只能用不定式吗
The main purpose of the course is to help improve each student’s reading ability.
本句 2019版人教版高中英语新教材必修一的 Unit 1（p15）。
老师说这里作表语的不定式只能用不定式 to help，不能用 helping，因为主语是 the purpose。这是不是说 the purpose作主语时后面的表语只能用不定式?

the purpose作主语时，表语通常要用不定式——原因是：the purpose 表示目的，指未发生的特定动作，所以通常要用不定式。又如：
The purpose of our visit is to see our grandchildren. 我们拜访的目的是看看我们的孙儿们。
The purpose of these tests is to find out who may need extra help. 这些测试意在找出哪些人需要额外帮助。
The purpose of this meeting is to elect a new chairman. 这次会议的目的是选出一位新主席。
但是不是就一定不能用动名词呢？也不绝对！偶尔也可见到例外的句子。比如高中英语北师大教材必修三第7页就有这样一句：
