这里面有三种结构：
1.seven years' work
2.seven years of work
3.the work of seven years
第一种是第三种的替换形式，且第一种较第三种使用更为普遍，说白了就是-’s结构替换of结构（时间用法），这个对你来说应该是很好接受和理解的。我猜你是想问第二种结构是怎么回事，与第一和第三种的关系。第二种结构在韦氏高阶上有很清楚的描述：

既然你对of这意义感兴趣，你何不查一下词典呢？词典一定会告诉你这个结构中of的语义的。’s 属格可以表示measurement，所以可以用‘s属格表示这种关系。二个结构的意义是相同的。
