1. 句中的whatever 可以换成 no matter what：
Whatever your answer is, there’s always a lot more to it than first meets the eye.
=No matter what your answer is, there’s always a lot more to it than first meets the eye.
whatever 与 no matter what 的区别是：whatever 可以引导让步状语从句，也可以引导名词性从句，但 no matter what 只用于引导状语从句，不能引导名词性从句。
(1) 下面的 what 引导名词性从句，不能换成 no matter what：
Whatever she says goes. 一切她说了算。
Whatever I have is yours. 我的东西都是你的。
Whatever she did was right. 她做的一切都是对的。
Take whatever you need. 你要什么就拿吧。
He's good at whatever he does. 他做事样样出色。
The children were allowed to do whatever they liked. 这些孩子可以想干什么就干什么。
(2) 下面的 what 引导让步状语从句，可以换成 no matter what：
Whatever (=No matter what) happens, I must be calm. 不管发生什么事我都要镇静。
Whatever (=No matter waht) you do, I’ll always love you. 不管你干什么，我永远爱你。
