2 when, while, as的比较

老师好！2020年的全国卷，65题： 65 he asked the villagers on the banks of the river where he could find the legendary artist, they smiled and pointed down the river. 答案是When/As。

我读了http://www.yygrammar.com/Article/200802/154.html关于when、while、as的区别，有些迷糊。假设这个人问完后，村民笑了，那么此时只能用when。但是答案有as，那应该是在问的过程中，村民就笑了，那ask就是延续性动作，smile和point是非延续的，主短从长，那这时答案为什么没有while呢？while也有连接一般体的情况

从句的asked，包括主句的smiled 和 pointed 都用了一般过去时，说明这三个动作都已经先后发生，且不延续。故使用when或 as，因为这两个连词引导的从句，谓语动词都可以是非延续性动词。过去时的 asked 表示终止，非延续，when 和 as 都表示 “问完后”。对于while 就不行了，谓语动词必须延续，除非把它改为过去进行时。

When/As he asked the villagers on the banks of the river where he could find the legendary artist, they smiled and pointed down the river. （问完后）

While he was asking the villagers on the banks of the river where he could find the legendary artist, they smiled and pointed down the river. （询问中）
