我对构词法是懂非懂，请问 clothes 是 cloth 的派生词吗？

我的意思是：clothes 并不是 cloth 变为复数得来的啊？

A. cloth

B. clothe(s), clothing.

我认为这两组可以分开来看，第1组就是布，它和衣服没什么关系。

第2组和衣服有关。clothes实际上是单数名词clothe的复数形式，但是从来不用这个单数形式。同时这个词可以当动词用，"给...穿衣服"，变成ing形式之后又有了名词含义，clothing由给某人穿衣服动作的含义，引申为身上的衣服，统称, 不可数。

a piece of cloth 只能是一块布，a piece of clothing才能表示衣服。

cloth, clothes是2个不同的单词，cloth表示“材料” clothes 表示“产品/成品”

(1) cloth n.布，织物，布料

Clean the surface with a damp cloth. 用湿布清洁表面。

She began cleaning the wound with a piece of cloth. 她开始用一块布清洗伤口。

(2)clothes n. 衣服；服装

I bought some new clothes for the trip.我为这次旅行买了一些新衣服。

Moira walked upstairs to change her clothes.莫伊拉上楼去换衣服。

He dressed quickly in casual clothes. 他很快穿上休闲装。
