He would have finished his college education, but he (C) to quit and find a job to support his family.

A had had

B has

C had

D would have

He would have finished his college education if he had not quitted and found a job to support his family.

He would have finished his college education had he not quitted and found a job to support his family.

        (1) subj. + could / should / would + have + v-ed + but + subj. + v-ed(或 have + v-ed)

        (2) subj. + could / should / would + have + v + but + subj. + v.(现在时)

We would have avoided making such a mistake, but we didn't follow his sound advice.

I would have written before but I have been ill.

I would be most glad to help you , but I'm busy now.

When we were in high school, Tom said he would have finished his college education.(当我们还在就读高中时,Tom就说他将来必能完成大学学业。)
