学英语不能教条。你平时见到的都是 in (the) front of...  那表示“处在某个地方（外部或内部）的一个范围内”。你通过常识判断一下：自行车前面的篮子是 “安装在” 车的前部，表示 “接触” 。a basket on the front of the bike   表示 “篮子与车架前部接触，固定在上面”，这就是用 on 的理由，这就是 on 的作用，表“接触”。而不是“篮子放在一个有面积的东西里”。例如，篮子在公交车的前部放着，你就说：a basket in the front of the bus。
