2 这里的automate是不是只能按不及物动词理解
In fact, by lowering costs of production, automation can create more demand for goods and services, boosting jobs that are hard to automate.
若按及物动词理解，悬空不定式的逻辑宾语是that，这样就会出现that在定语从句中既是主语又是automate的宾语的情况？还是可以将automate理解为及物动词？

一个动词，用在一个单句或者定语从句中，并不改变其性质。怎么对此有怀疑呢？
本句，that are hard to automate 是定语从句，jobs 是先行词。你把 that 换成 jobs，即可恢复为一个单句：
(many) jobs are hard to automate，此句，automate 仍然是及物动词，其逻辑宾语是句子主语 jobs，即所谓的“悬空不定式”。
boosting jobs that are hard to automate.——这个现在分词短语作结果状语，表示上文的结果。“增加了许多无法自动化的就业岗位”。
