关于外刊中两个小句子的疑惑

①Millions of Chinese college students and other wannabe entrepreneurs bought into the image he cultivated, of a humble teacher turned philanthropic tech titan with a splash of cultural cool.

请问老师，逗号后为什么有个of，应该不是millions of 的省略吧，后面是单数啊。

②Similarly, in his 20 years running GE, Jack Welch earned a reputation (since disputed) for red-toothed success, but was too cold-blooded to mesmerise the masses.

请问老师，括号里怎么理解，如果since后面是过去式，那前面应该是完成时啊，前面用了earned。

1 Of介词短语是image的定语，由于image带有定语从句，故用逗号分隔，以避免误读。

2 since disputed（过去分词）放在括号里是起补充说明作用，并不是真正的时间状语。所以谓语动词用一般过去时。句子中有时间状语in his twenty years running…。
