exercise 做动词，后面不接所做的运动，可以接身体的部位。实际上，we are exercised in boxing 这种说法指的是我们通过boxing 身体得到了锻炼的意思。也可以说 we exercise by boxing. 例句：She exercises most evenings usually by running. (Cambridge Dictionary) 现代英语比较常见的说法是： We practise boxing once a week. 葛的惯用法词典里的有些例句已经过于陈旧。
