(1)Jack is six feet tall, of medium build.杰克有六英尺高，中等身材。

以上 of medium build 属于be of +名词结构用来描述主语所具有的特征或性质，包括等级、大小、类型、质量、年龄、重要性等。可以归纳为以下几种情况。

备注：be of+名词=be+adj+结构, 后面形容词为前面名词同根形容词，例如be of importance to = be important to 。

【1】表示有用或有帮助的名词(be of use,help, assistance,aid,service)：

be of use/no use 有用（没用）
be of  help/no help　有帮助 (没有帮助）

be of  assistance有帮助
be of aid 有帮助  

 be of service 有用

They are of great help to learners of English.=They are greatly useful to learners of English.他们对英语学习者有很大帮助。

The book will be of great value to students of history.这本书对学历史的学生将很有用。

Please let me know whether I can be of help. 请让我知道我是否能帮上点忙。

It is of no use to me. =It is useless to me这个对我没用。

【2】 表示价值和重要性的名词(be of value, importance, benefit, harm,significance)：
be of value 有价值
be of  importance 重要
be of  benefit 有益处
be of  no harm无害
be of significance 有意义

This dictionary will be of great benefit to me.  这部字典将对我有很大裨益.

What they have done is of no harm to us. 他们所做的对我们没有任何害处。

Jack's discovery is of great importance to our country in the future.

杰克的发现对我们国家未来非常重要。

【3】表示质量、等级、标准的名词(be of quality, rank, standard)：
be of high/low/good/bad quality 高/低/好/差质量
be of  high/low rank 高等级（低等级） 
be of  high/low standard 高标准（低标准）

The products of our factory are of best quality. 我们工厂的产品质量最好。

【4】 表示尺寸、长度、形状 (be of size, length, height, shape) 的名词

He can wear my clothes because we are of the same size.他可以穿我的衣服，因为我们尺寸一样。

【5】其他常用的还有 (be of age, interest, color) 等。

The story is of no interest to the kids. 孩子们对这个故事不感兴趣。

He is of your age. 他和你同龄。

They are of the same age. 他们一样大。

The walls of those buildings are of light grey color. 

那些建筑的墙壁是浅灰色的。

(2)Boil for 20 minutes until the liquid has reduced by half.沸腾20分钟直到液体减少一半

把by换成to是否表达的意思一致？

(主动)sb reduce A by half=  A be reduced by half表示减少了一半,        sb reduced sth by ，介词表示减少幅度，  sb reduce sth to ,介词to表示减少到结果。

A be reduced to B 表示减少到B数量

Costs have been reduced by 20% over the past year.过去一年，各项费用已经减少了20%。

The number of employees was reduced from 40 to 25.雇员人数从40人减少到了25人。

The skirt was reduced to £10 in the sale.在大减价期间，这条裙子减价到10英镑。

以上for 20 minutes表示动作持续时间长度，不可以改为介词to, 

The toaster remained on for more than an hour.

烤面包机持续开了一个多小时。

 For a few minutes she sat on her bed watching the clock...  

她坐在床上盯着时钟看了几分钟。

(3)She refuses to acknowledge the need for reform.她拒绝承认改革的必要性。

for在句中的含义是突出“对于”改革的必要性吗？如果换成of，变成“改革的必要性”也没问题吧？

以上不可以改为介词of, 介词表示针对于，the need for sth  表示某事 的必要性；对…的需求

The President spoke of the need for territorial compromise.  

总统谈到了在领土问题上达成和解的必要性。

(4)She was very abrupt with me in our meeting.她在我们会议上对我很粗鲁。

为什么用with？感觉用to更好，表达对我如何如何，用to的话含义也一样吧？

be abrupt with sb 表示对某人很粗鲁莽。这里介词with对…来说

(5)She abused her position as leader by giving jobs to her friends.她滥用她的领导职权给她朋友提供工作。

为什么用by？换成to，变成She abused her position as leader to give jobs to her friends.意思也一样吧？

介词by giving jobs to her friends介词短语作方式状语，以某种方式滥用她的职位。如果改为to则是不定式作目的状语。
