spare 的用法

例句1：I wanted to spare Frances the embarrassment of discussing this subject...

讨论这个话题太尴尬，我不想让弗朗西斯难堪。

例句2：The policy has not spared the farming community from severe financial pressure.

这项政策并没有使农村社会逃脱沉重的经济压力。

例句3：Surely you can spare me a few minutes?

你应该能为我空出几分钟时间吧？


问题1：例句1中，在Frances 后面是否可以加上from？或者例句2中的from是否可以去掉？加上或去掉from 意思是否一样？

问题3：例句1和例句3 都是VNN结构，例句1中的spare 有（为***）避免的意思，例句3中的spare 有（为***）抽出，腾出的意思, 两者语法结构相同，但含有差别不小，在英译中时如何区分？只能根据直接宾语和句子的意思去确定动词的含义吗？

spare sb/yourself (from) sth
省得；免去 
He wanted to spare his mother (from) any anxiety.
他不想让母亲有丝毫的担忧。
She was spared from the ordeal of appearing in court.
她无须出庭受折磨了。
这项政策并没有使农村社会逃脱沉重的经济压力。

——spare 表示“省得，免去”之意，可以接双宾语，spare sb. sth.，也可以接 spare sb. from sth.

例句2：The policy has not spared the farming community from severe financial pressure.

——可以省去 from，见解答1。

例句3：Surely you can spare me a few minutes?
你应该能为我空出几分钟时间吧？
——spare 接双宾语。还可作“抽出, 让给, 分出, 匀出, 腾出”解。指因为有多余, 将某物让给别人以后, 对自己仍不造成困难, 或表示“留出时间做某事, 抽出时间”。
