这里的so might a man look 是类似于通常见到的so do I倒装吗?

He kept his eyes fixed on mine till I had finished, and then he turned away. There was on his face a strange look, and I thought that so might a man look when he had died under the torture. He was silent. I knew that our conversation was ended.

and I thought that so might a man look 中so might a man look 是否就是类似于我们通常见到的so do I (我也是)?

There was on his face a strange look,

so might a man look 便是。so do I 后面没有其他动词,说明 so 是全部替代,这句有 look,说明 so 是部分替代。There was on his face a strange look 是一个陈述句,描写一个情形,具体说,so 应该是替代 strange,即:a man might look strange.
