“编词典”可以用动词write吗

见过“编词典”用动词 compile 的。查到了以下例子：

We are engaged in compiling dictionary. 我们正在编字典。

The dictionary is compiled especially for beginners. 这本词典是专门为初学者编写的。

Their collaboration in compiling the dictionary was successful. 他们在编辑字典中的合作是成功的。

但请问一下，编词典可以用动词 write 吗？

没错，编词典通常是用 compile，但也可以用 write。

比如《牛津学生英语搭配词典》就给出了 compile 和 write 两个搭配的动词。

又如下面一句摘自《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》：
He is writing a dictionary or something. 他在编词典之类的书。

write 也是正确的，write a dictionary也是“编写，编纂字典”的意思。
