一、条件句：这是古英语遗留下来的一种虚拟语气，be 动词用原形。常用于 if 条件句和 whether 让步从句。在现代英语，只有非常正式的文体才用。不过，在美国英语中，这种虚拟用法经常见到。又如：
If it be right, do it boldly. 假如觉得是对的，就大胆地去做
If this be the case, he deserves you. 当真这样的话，他的确配得上你。
Leave out my name from the gift if it be a burden, but keep my song. 假如我的名字成了负累，就将它从这礼物上拭去吧，但请保留我的诗歌。
If this be the price of the child's sympathy, I cannot pay it. 如果这是换取孩子同情的代价，我是不能支付的。
Whether he be rich or poor, I will marry him all the same.

二、主句：在 that you may be sure is nature's way. 中，you may be sure 为嵌入成分，去掉后为： that is nature's way. ——这是对应条件句的主句，如果让其作 you may be sure 的宾语，即：you may be sure that is nature's way，那么，If..., you may be sure...在结构和语义上，都不对应。

你是怎么分析句子呢？if引导条件状语从句，后面又是原因状语从句，那么主句在哪里？

that you may be sure is nature's way.= you may be sure that is nature's way.

that为指示代词，指代if从句的内容，并在主句中作be sure后that从句的主语。为了强调that，that前置于主句之前，形成了一个嵌入式陈述分句。

如果在you may be sure前后打上逗号:

If one way be better than another, that, you may be sure, is nature's way.
则you may be sure 为插入分句。

因为强调而把that前置的情况较为少见，但偶尔还是可以见到的。例如下面COCA例句：

I really hate people like that fitness instructor. I hate people, particularly women, cause it seems more of a thing with women, that treat people like they're mindless idiots. Or that they need to be taken care of like a baby. # I would've wanted to say to her, " Listen I am healthy. I eat what I want when I want, and that I'm sure to your amazement, doesn't mean Krispy Kreme donuts or whatever you like to presume fat people must eat in order to be fat.
