引导表语从句的that通常是不省略的。例如：

Your trouble is that you lack perseverance. 你的问题是你缺乏毅力。

His trouble is that he’s absent from school too often. 他的问题是缺课太多。

My suggestion is that we should tell him. 我的建议是我们应该告诉他。

省略引导表语从句的that偶尔可见，主要是出现在非正式文体中。例句：

The reason was (that) you don’t trust her. 原因是你不信任她。

The simple truth is he’s lost his job.  事实很简单，他丢了工作。

The sad truth is he never loved her.  令人悲哀的是他从没有爱过她。

另外，若是像下面这样在is后有逗号（即有停顿），则不能用that：

The simple truth is, I don’t know.  实话实说，我不知道。
