连字符的作用之一是醒目，突出强调。

我举一个类似的例句：If you don't want to go when you are hungry, please stay here. 如果在你饿了时（在你饿了的情况下）不想去，请呆在这儿。

在条件句里面又加了一个时间从句，让其意义更加丰富。
