在笔记中看到这样一个句子，不记得是从哪里抄的了，它是对的吗？

Where would be the best place to hold the party?

很显然这里的 where 是用作主语吧？

我认为，这个句子中的where是主语，而不是表语。where也应该是代词，= what place, which place, 而不是副词。我们先看下面一个例子。

1 Beijing will be the best place to live in. 这是一个系表结构的句子，确认性表语。所以，主语和表语可以互换句法功能，即表语作主语，主语作表语：

2 The best place to live in will be Beijing.

注意这二个句子中，Beijing都不能改为in Beijing.

当我们就句1中的Beijing提问，北京是主语，用Where/What/Which city 替换 Beijing，由于疑问词本身就是主语，没有发生前置，所以句子不倒装。得到：

Where/What/Which city will be the best place to live in? 正常语序。

当我们对句2中的Beijing提问时，由于Beijing是表语，用Where/What/Which city替换Beijing后，疑问词要前置，则导致问句部分导致（只有操作词移至主语前），则得到：

Where/What/Which city will the best place to live in be? 部分倒装句。

疑问句的倒装是部分倒装句，即操作词的倒装，实意动词是不能移至主语前位置的。

所以，网友的这个句子Where后接would be+名词词组构成的问句，并不是部分倒装句，而是正常语序，where处于主语位置。

Where在这里不是主语，而是表语。主语是the best place to hold the party（不定式to hold the party作定语修饰主语the best place）。体会下面的陈述句变为疑问句：

The best place to hold the party is in the Rose Hotel.

→Where is the best place to hold the party?
