tell用法存疑？
1)
He will do what his pareents tell him to (do). （正）
本句，tell 接复合宾语。what 是 to do 的宾语
2)
He will do what his pareents tell him.（误）
本句，tell 接双宾语，what 是直接宾语。如果what 指 a story，news ，那么怎么去do呢？
我的疑惑是：
对于He will do what his pareents tell him to 或 He will do what his pareents tell him to do， 我能理解。
但是对于He will do what his pareents tell him. 为什么就是错误的呢？
He will do what his pareents tell him.
=He will do the thing that his pareents tell him.
把what看作融合性关系代词，如上。 我感觉也对呀！？

the thing 表示什么，代表什么？ 然后跟do 搭配，能不能行？ 这是问题的关键。建议网友给出 the thing 的具体名词是什么。

do the story？
do the work 可以，但是：
tell him the work （误）
tell him about the work（正）
