2 a last 与 the last的区别
老师好，
偶看到last前面用a，比如：A last full day in Florence includes...
再入词典例句：He said the President was making a last ditch attempt to save his own neck.
他说总统正在作最后的努力，希望保住自己的声誉。
不过 用the似乎多些：
We caught the last bus home. 我们赶上了回家的末班公共汽车。
请问老师，the last与a last有何区别，最后一句是否可改为We caught a last bus home.

the last 跟 the first 相对，都属于“序数概念”，之前加 the 是因为后面的名词需要特指。序数词暗示唯一性，特定性，独一无二性。被排了序的事物都具备这些性质。
但是，last 还有一层意思，是指“最终的”，相当于 final。这时不强调序数。尤其用在一些固定表达中。例如：take a last look （= take a final look，因为习惯上 take a look 是用不定冠词的）， make a last ditch attempt, as a last resort 等。
Lucille took a last look in the mirror.
露西尔往镜子里看了最后一眼。
