中国的行政划分，除了“港澳台”外，大陆分为“华北、东北、华东、华中、华南、西南和西北”7大区域。

英语翻译，“华南”和“华北”，英语是 South China 和 North China。以 China为中心词，之前加上“方位名词”，都要大写，作为专有名词看待。如果是“中国南部，中国南方”，则说：southern China 或者 the south of China。分别举例如下。

South China（华南）：

I came across an old friend on my journey to South China.  我在去华南旅行的途中意外地遇到了一位老朋友。

Summer in South China is hot and humid.  中国华南的夏天闷热潮湿。

I brought back some fruit from South China.  我从华南带回一些水果。

It is grown in both North and South China.  这类植物在华南和华北都种植。

southern China 和 the south of China（中国南部、中国南方）：

He lives in southern China.  他住在中国的南方。

It rains constantly in southern China in June. 六月份中国南方阴雨绵绵。

The strong tides in southern China have also diminished. 中国南方的强潮水也已经减弱。

Many people are killed each year from natural disasters in southern China. 在中国南方，每年都有很多人会被自然灾害夺去生命。

如果一个国家的区域，按照地理或行政分为几大部分，应看作专有名词，也是大写。例如：“法国东部”，习惯上用形容词作定语， Eastern France.

如果不说专有名词“法国东部”，而是改为“法国的东部”，则是the east of France

这是判断的一条基本规则。
