Increased vertical oxygen gradients after ~15.6Ma and after 13.8Ma indicate increased production of Southern Component Water (SCW) in association with East Antarctic Ice Sheet (EAIS) growth.
这句话是说 1.垂向梯度的增加表示的是 和EAIS增加有关的increased production of Southern Component Water，还是说 2.垂向梯度的增加表示的是 increased production of Southern Component Water 是EAIS的增加所导致的？
也就是说 Increased vertical oxygen gradients表明的是 A导致B这个结果 还是表明（由于B所导致的）A这个物体
in association with是做后置定语 还是做 increased production的宾补

A in association with B 仅仅表示A与B有关联，而没有暗示究竟是A导致B，还是B导致A。因为很可能A和B都是由未提及的或未知的C所导致。如果要表示A是B导致的，就直接用caused by了。所以，你在理解in association with的时候，不应联想因果关系，只关注二者相关联即可。
