it is in the evening that I first met him. 为啥不能填“

我知道这个是个强调句，“it is…that”去掉句子能表达完整的意思，就是强调我第一次见他是在晚上。可是为啥不能填“when”引导定语从句就是“那是一个晚上，那时我们第一次见面”，有点怪，但是想不明白。是不是因为英语里“it”必须要有指代的具体东西。用“when”的时候，这里的“it”没意义。

在美国英语中，如果强调时间状语，that 可以用 when 替换。如：

It was after two o'clock in the morning when the surgeon arrived at the hospital. 在早上两点后，外科医生才到那家医院。（摘自《薄冰英语惯用法词典》P.435）

It was yesterday that [or when] I met him. 我是昨天见到他的。 (摘自《英汉多功能词典》新编升级版 p.899)
