In his tweed suit and cloth cap he looked like any other tourist upon the moor, and he had contrived,
with that catlike love of personal cleanliness which was one of his characteristics,
that his chin should be as smooth and his linen as perfect as if he were in Baker Street.
"I never was more glad to see anyone in my life," said I as I wrung him by the hand.
1)that his chin should be 中为什么用了should ? 为什么不说that his chin was...?
2) 没看懂as smooth and his linen as perfect as if he were in Baker Street. 这里出现了as...as...as if 这样一种结构,麻烦老师分析一下。
Tom is as tall and as strong as John is.
His face is as pale as if he were ill.
3 glad的比较级和最高级有二种形式,gladder, gladdest 或者more glad, most glad.
