longing为形容词，渴望的。这里不是long, 长的。剩下的你就该理解了吧。in as longing a note as that of a cuckoo：用杜鹃鸟那样渴望的音符。

if only+虚拟语气谓语动词...! ：要是... 那该多好啊！大致等于 I wish...。

要是我是一位诗人，能用我所驾驭的甜美的语汇，用杜鹃鸟般的渴望的音符，来歌颂北平的宏伟、壮观，那该有多好啊！
