so...as...

I had, in sum, three nightcaps-even though the third was tendered me with a marked lack of enthusiasm. Enthussiam or not, I continued to sit,

and wondered all the while if I would ever be so old as the man I now sat with.

1) tender sb sth -

2) 为什么上句if句使用了so...as, 而不是as...as比较分句呢?so...as不是应该只用在否定句中吗?

4)或是否我的上面理解错了,这里的be so old as the man 是定语从句吗?

Mr. Brown will remain in the city several days, and a reception will be tendered him at Mr. Watkins's on Wednesday evening.

So, the Mets chose to roll the dice one more time with Harvey and tendered him a $5.63 million contract for this year.

But you will not expect me to discuss its provisions at length, or in any detail, at this time. It will, however, be my duty at some future day to make to you and through you to the great party you represent a more formal acceptance of the nomination tendered me.

Dr. Sandford proposed Melbourne; and urged that in the first place we should avail ourselves of the hospitalities of his sister's house in that neighbourhood, most generously tendered us.

2 so...as... 本句if=whether, 引导间接疑问句。

Would I ever be so old as the man I sat with?

Is your former girlfriend so beautiful as me?

Do you have so much money as he does?

3 ever= at one time.
