She had gone alone, but the children were to go to the station to meet her. And loving the station as they did, it was only natural that they should be there a good hour before there was any chance of Mother's train arriving, even if the train were punctual, which was most unlikely.
9. What can you say about their mother's train?
A.    It would probably be early.
B.    It would probably be on time.
C.    It would probably be late.
D.    It had been cancelled.

1） And loving the station as they did,...原句loving正确，不能改为love

2）even if the train were punctual（注意were）这个从句就足够提示我们选C了，这是一个虚拟语气，表示“就算火车准时到达”，实际就是the train was not punctual，说明这个班次火车（不限于本次）的特点就是“会迟到”。which was most unlikely更是补充说“准时到”是不可能的。

1. 这是原因状语从句：love the station as they did, —— 改为原形 love。“既然他们如此热爱这个车站”。句子有点无厘头，爱车站就该早到达？

2. which was most unlikely.——这个非限制性定语从句把前面的内容都否定了。所以，C是有可能的。B “准时”的意思过于准确。
