1 如果你受了from A to B 这种用法的影响，你就无法理解这个句子了。这里并不是从A到B的意思。key是个音乐术语。表示一个句子的基调。如果你看过一个乐谱的话，你会发现曲谱的左上方会有 1 = C 或者 1 = F，表示这个曲子为C调或F调，即以钢琴键盘上C或F的音高作为1 （逗来咪的逗）。
he never changed his voice from the gentle-flowing key 他的声音从未偏离柔和流畅的基调。to which he tuned his initial sentence 定语从句，which指代the key, to which作tuned的状语，他把最初的句子调到该基调（即音高）。合起来，这个句子的意思是，他说话从一开始就是用一种柔和而流畅的音调，没有阴阳顿挫。
2 so为并列连词，所以。far from为复合介词，远飞，根本不是，后接动名词短语his imagining that...并非想象他的故事中有什么荒唐、滑稽的东西，而是... 。far from表示否定意义，所以that从句用非肯定词anything，而不是肯定词something。
