第二，主句是现在时，定语从句怎么用了过去完成时？earlier in May不就是过去的具体时间吗？

定冠词the（包括物主代词，指示代词等）是中位限定词。当one of后的名词有“数词”修饰时，定冠词the可省可不省，但省去的情况更多。又例如：

The earth is one of nine planets which move in orbit round the sun. 地球是沿轨道围绕太阳运行的九大行星之一。

The Dragon Boat Festival is one of three major Chinese holidays, along with the Spring and Moon Festivals. 端午节是三个中国主要节日之一，另两个是春节和中秋节。

问题二、

earlier in May有两种理解，如果将“五月早些时”笼统地看作过去的一个整体的时间，句子用过去时；in May本身就是过去的时间，但如果侧重于“更早些”则是过去的过去，那么也可以用过去完成时。例如：

A wage freeze was imposed on all staff earlier this month. 这个月早些时候，所有员工的工资都被冻结了。《柯林斯词典》

He'd snared a rabbit earlier in the day. 那天早些时候，他用罗网捕了一只野兔。《柯林斯词典》

这个句子二处错误。

1 主语为he, 表语为household, 逻辑错误。应该用名词性物主代词His作主语。

2 正如网友所说，主句谓语为is, 定语从句用过去完成时没有道理。改为一般过去时为宜。
